Harvest, Covenant and Spirit
Shavuot marks the counted harvest, remembers covenant formation, and provides the setting for the Spirit’s outpouring at Pentecost.
The Feast of Weeks · Shavuot
Leviticus 23:15–22 counts seven complete weeks and then the fiftieth day. The feast celebrates harvest before the LORD, yet its instructions also protect the poor and the stranger by leaving the field’s edges for them. Worship and generosity belong together.
A counted people
The weeks between Firstfruits and Shavuot cultivate expectancy. Israel’s later remembrance connects the season with covenant and Torah; Acts 2 places the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the Greek name associated with the fiftieth day.
Spirit for witness and shared life
At Pentecost the Spirit fills the disciples and the good news is heard across languages. The harvest expands outward. Spirit-filled life therefore bears witness to Jesus, forms a generous community, and makes room for people once considered far away.
