The Lamb and Deliverance

Leviticus 23:5 places the LORD’s Passover at evening on the fourteenth day of the first month. Exodus 12 gives the foundational story: a lamb was slain, its blood marked the houses, judgment passed over, and God brought His people out of bondage.

Remembered deliverance

Passover teaches that redemption begins with God’s initiative. Israel did not rescue itself from Pharaoh. The LORD heard, acted, sheltered, and led His people out. The meal formed a household memory so that later generations would tell what God had done.

Christ our Passover

The New Testament names Jesus as our Passover sacrificed for us in 1 Corinthians 5:7. His death is not detached from Israel’s story; it brings the pattern of deliverance to its saving fulfilment. We receive grace, leave the old bondage behind, and become a people who remember the Lamb with gratitude and obedience.
