The sevenfold Spirit · Isaiah 11:1–3רוח יהוה

The Seven Spirits of God

One Holy Spirit in sevenfold fullness.

Isaiah reveals the Spirit of the LORD resting upon the Messiah in wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the LORD. These are not seven separate spirits, but the complete fullness of the one Holy Spirit revealed perfectly in Jesus Christ and forming His people.

The Spirit of Counsel

Counsel leads God’s people into decisions that agree with the heart, wisdom, and mission of Jesus.

The Spirit’s counsel is personal without becoming private or impulsive. He guides in harmony with Scripture, the character of Christ, prayerful surrender, and wise community. At the crossroads, counsel slows our need to control the outcome and teaches us to listen. Divine guidance bears recognisable fruit: truth, peace, humility, courage, holiness, and love. The Wonderful Counsellor never contradicts the life He is forming in us.

He will guide you into all truth. — John 16:13 KJV
